Author – Charlotte Tomlinson MSc
I graduated with a Masters Degree in Dance Science from Laban in 2006. Before that I achieved a BA (hons) degree in Dance from Roehampton University. Since then I have also become a qualified teacher in dance, and fitness yoga, seated exercise and a range of other fitness activities. I am a guest lecturer for Dance Institutions and a listed Healthier Dancer Speaker for Dance UK. I am pleased to announce that I am now an author and have worked with Edel Quin and Sonia Rafferty to produce Safe Dance Practice: An applied dance science perspective and winner of the 2017 One Dance UK Award for inspirational Community Dance Practitioner.
After completing my studies I was fortunate to dance with 4motion Dance Theatre for two years before teaching full time. Now my focus is on training other dancers to be fit and well enough for their peak performance standard, with a focus on fitness, nutrition and injury prevention.
I am a Dance Scientist and lecturer in dance, with a main focus on Anatomy & Physiology, Community Dance Practice and Healthy Dance Practice. I am a course provider for the new Healthy Dance Practice Certification developed by Safe in Dance International (SiDI) and endorsed by NIDMS and CDET.
In October 2010 I presented at IADMS Birmigham and was then invited to present at IADMS 2011 Washington Day for Teachers.
Finally, my work in the community takes up the rest of my working time. I am Artistic Director for SideKick Dance a dance company for young people with disabilities. My community dance classes have proved incredibly rewarding and it has been an exciting experience to help, support and witness my participants grow with improved skills, health, and fitness whilst enjoying themselves.
