About

Author – Charlotte Tomlinson MSc

I graduated with a Masters Degree in Dance Science from Laban in 2006. Before that I achieved a BA (hons) degree in Dance from Roehampton University. Since then I have also become a qualified teacher in dance, fitness and fitness yoga, seated exercise and zumba. I am a guest lecturer for Dance Institutions and I am a listed Healthier Dancer Speaker for Dance UK.

I have been training in or working in dance, health and fitness for 20 years now mainly in The East Midlands, London and Chichester.

After completing my studies I was fortunate to dance with 4motion Dance Theatre for two years before teaching full time. Now my focus is on training other dancers to be fit and well enough for their peak performance standard, with a focus on fitness, nutrition and injury prevention.

I am currently based at The National Skills Academy within Leicester College as resident Dance Scientist and the health and fitness specialist for dancers. I am the module leader for Anatomy and Physiology and Community Dance Practice on the Foundation Degree. I am also the Course Team Leader for the Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Dance: Year 1.

Outside of Leicester College I am a course provider for the Certificate in Safe and Effective Dance Practice which was developed by Trinity College and The International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS).

In October 2010 I presented at IADMS Birmigham and was then invited to present at IADMS 2011 Washington Day for Teachers.

Finally, my work in the community takes up the rest of my working time. My community dance and fitness classes have proved incredibly rewarding and it has been an exciting experience to help, support and witness my participants grow with improved health and fitness whilst enjoying themselves.
